Sterility Assurance Key To Survival Of Endangered Species

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a conservation and rehabilitation facility located on Jekyll Island, Georgia, is dedicated to the rescue, research, and protection of sea turtles. Established in 2007, the center provides medical care for injured and sick turtles while educating visitors about marine conservation and coastal ecosystems. Through interactive exhibits, rehabilitation programs, and public outreach, the center plays a critical role in protecting threatened sea turtle species along the Georgia coast and beyond.
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center treats injured and sick sea turtles using specialized medical equipment that cannot always withstand high-temperature steam sterilization. Ethylene oxide gas is commonly used in veterinary and medical settings to sterilize delicate instruments, plastic tubing, endoscopes, surgical tools, and other heat- or moisture-sensitive materials. Since the center performs medical procedures, surgeries, rehabilitation treatments, and laboratory work, Andersen’s AN75j sterilizer ensures that medical devices, including the endoscopes used at the facility, are free of bacteria, viruses, and fungi while preserving the integrity of sensitive devices needed for these extraordinary creatures.
Andersen recently delivered a 2026 AN75 touchscreen sterilizer. Watch the short video below to learn more from veterinarian Dr. Jill Western, who recently introduced us to her patient, Polly, and shared how terminal sterilization is key to successfully treating and caring for the many patients at their facility.
